Star tribune article highlights new artist residency
Artist Olga Ziemska continues to captivate audiences with her nature-inspired sculptures.
Her renowned piece, ONA, is featured in the May 9, 2025, issue of the Star Tribune, coinciding with the announcement of her upcoming artist residency at Ortenstone Gardens in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
During her month-long residency from May 12 to June 10, Ziemska will reinstall three of her large-scale outdoor sculptures from her recent solo exhibition, Of the Earth, at Chicago's Morton Arboretum. These works, crafted from reclaimed tree branches and natural materials, include ONA, a 14-foot-tall female figure with wind-swept hair, and two other pieces that explore the interconnectedness of humans and nature .
In addition to showcasing existing works, Ziemska will create a new environmental sculpture specifically for Ortenstone Gardens. This piece will further her exploration of the theme "We are nature," emphasizing the seamless connection between humans and the natural world.
Visitors to Ortenstone Gardens can also participate in a Nature Printmaking Workshop led by Ziemska on May 24. The workshop offers a hands-on experience, allowing participants to create art using natural textures found within the sculpture park grounds.
Ziemska's residency at Ortenstone Gardens not only brings her evocative sculptures to a new audience but also reinforces the park's commitment to integrating art and nature. Her works invite reflection on our relationship with the environment, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
